Three years in as a celebrity wardrobe stylist & costume designer for films & commercials Vaile found herself in the apparel industry quickly after one of her designs landed in the hands of an impassioned apparel sales representative. A front page placement on the Life & Style section of USA Today spawned a media frenzy and soon her “Underwear Top” was ordered by every major retailer across the country! With a whirlwind of enthusiasm Carilyn begged her mother to partner with her and together they learned what “baptism by fire” truly meant!
The Carilyn Vaile label became an icon for the American dream; built on sweat, tears, and laughter. Carilyn says, “Each roll of our coaster grew stronger thru perpetual persistence, trust in each other and a motivating mission to provide women inspired yet wearable clothing that understood her need to be comfortable AND feel chic; undefined by age.”
As shocking as it was to some, this mother/daughter team- without business education nor fashion training – saw a consistent 20% growth since inception and placed the Carilyn Vaile brand on Inc. Magazine’s 5000 fastest growing privately owned companies in 2007 and #92 on the Consumer Reports list!
In 2003 mother/daughter team co-wrote a book called “I am Diva; Every Woman’s Guide to Outrageous Living” with Warner Books, furthering their mission & commitment to providing women opportunities to recognize their own individual beauty & power, embracing all life has to offer and never giving up!
After her mother’s retirement in 2009, Vaile took a year long hiatus from fashion and in 2010 agreed to re-launch the brand with a generous and insightful investor from the technology & web-hosting industry. Today Carilyn leads the design team for this new company; The Carilyn Vaile Corporation and continues the legacy of providing women Convenient yet Savvy Style for the Speed of Life!
